A setup to study rotating turbulence with different forcing mechanisms
Placed on the rotating table, this setup will offer two different turbulence forcing mechanisms:
- Thermal convection with heated and cooled copper plates.
- Vertical flaps that generate dipolar vortices. Inspired by Campagne et al., Phys. Fluids 26, 125112 (2014).
This tank has a square cross-section with a side length of 0.6 m and a height of 1.2 m. Thermal forcing: Rayleigh numbers Ra = (1 - 8) x 1011. Rotation: Ekman numbers Ek down to 7 x 10-8.
